Just got my new Jegs 15" drag wheels, at like 6:51PM EST. F'ing UPS, I was hoping to get these by 3PM so I can get them mounted and balanced. I got V6 brakes up front, and I'm going to try to grind the calipers to fit this wheel with no spacer.

But, if that does not pan out, I got 1/4" spacer from Jegs and will do the same thing Dale (Firestang70) did, which is grind them down a little and then use the spacer. I am running Black Bullits, and on the rear I have a 17x9 Black Bullit wheel, with a 325 M&H DR, so I wanted the fronts to match a little. So I had these shipped to Mike@PH, and he took them over to Chuck (CHE) and had them powder coated.

I think the results are very good. Makes these wheels look a lot better IMO.

I plan to take the day off Friday, and have them on the car. I'll take pics then too and update this thread. I plan to run these up front at the GOTC event this Saturday. We are talking 40lbs less rotational weight off the front end of my car!

They look badass! Man I could stand to lose 40#s...............Must stick to the plan..must stick to the plan

This was a cost effective setup, do it. Just think, they are good for at least 2/10ths.

Install Notes

I took the day off to install the wheels, and glad I did. Took the wheels to good year, had them mounted in balance. Cut and dry, no issues there. Got home, couldn't find the damn scale. Went into the "pit" (our spare guest room) and couldn't find it. Called the wife at work, she said the scale has been MIA for nearly 2 years. Fine.

Do a test fit on the wheels, and I can tell I can fit the wheel on the front V6 brakes no problem. Then test it with the 1/4 Jegs spacer. Almost no rubbing and a ton of space for the lugs! Decide to go that route, test the fitment and lugs...stock lugs don't fit.

Run to Target, get a scale. Run to Autozone, get some narrow lugs with extension tool (all came in a kit). Get home, test the lugs, fit perfect, and sit flush with the wheel. Awesome.

Weight Savings

Before I started the install, I decided to see what my weight savings would be. My calculations indicated 20lbs per corner of the car. Here is what it really came out to be:

17x9 Bullit Wheel w/Nitto 450 255/50/17 - 54lbs
15x4 Jegs Wheel w/Kumho 165/80/15 - 29lbs

Rotational weight savings per wheel: 25lbs
Toto rotational weight savings: 50lbs

Shaving The Calipers

I was originally going to use a sanding wheel on my drill. But Tony (Ranebowcyxx), convinced me to use a dremel tool with a grinding wheel. He said it would cut through the material faster than the drill because of the rpm (35k). I didn't have a dremel kit, so was a perfect excuse to buy a tool.

Get it, get the brown 1" grinding wheel on it. He was right, it shaved off the material I needed in just under 5 minutes. I barely needed 1mm with the 1/4 spacer and the V6 brakes.

Measurements

I run the stock V6 springs, with a 5.4 3V iron block, and an aggressive CDC chin spoiler. Going into this, I knew I that chin was not going to like the shorter Kumho. I took some measurements so you call can take note of this:

Nitto 255/50/17 - chin spoiler clearance: 4.5"
Kumho 165/80/15 - chin spoiler clearance: 3.0"

Ouch! Now good year only inflated them up to 33psi, and its max is 44psi. I plan to run them at 41psi. So I may see a little more. But its definitely not going to get over any speed bumps.

I will be putting these on the track, and taking them off before I leave. Later I will have Tokicos all the way around, and I can play with adjusting the fronts with these wheels/tires.

Pictures

I took some quick pictures on the pipe stem in front of my house. Here you go:

You have the added benefit too of being able to drive that setup to and from the track. I can't do that with my Bogarts...

I wish, no way my chin will make it past the end of the pipe stem to my house. Maybe after the shocks are on, I can adjust the fronts so the chin sits back up at 4.5".

Relooking at the front shot, I see what you mean now (off topic, who makes that chin spoiler. I LIKE).

I gotta ask: what speed are those "skinnies" rated to?

I pulled my rear seat out and put in the delete so I would have a platform for my drag wheel/tire set when I go to dragstrips where I don't think things laying around will walk off. I have a whole slew of tire totes to put them in so I don't mess up the interior anyhow.

Keep me apprised if you go to Hagerstown Sunday. I'd like to take some pictures and see if you pull those fronts off the ground. If you don't mind, please pm me the overall cost for the wheels/powdercoating...

It's a CDC aggressive chin spoiler. My Kuhmos are rated to 120 on the street. I got them for $45 a tire. I need to get some totes for my tires too. I'll shoot you a PM and keep you posted on Hagerstown. I'm just over an hour from there.

Let's see, $1100 for 4 used Bogarts, $725for MT ET Streets and skinnies. Definately light weight but ouch!

I paid just under 200 for the two fronts, plus powder coating, and $45 per Kuhmo tire. If all you need is some front runners, I think this is a cost effective way to go.

Man, they look great on the car. I love the look of the skinnies. They match the rear wheels very well. Thanks for the update.

I was out in the garage, changing out my rear DR's for my street tires and deciced to weigh my 17x9's with M&H 325 DR's. They came in at 48lbs! I found that odd as I know the Nittos on the same rim felt heavier.

I put the Nittos back on the scale and realized I must have read the scale wrong. As they came in at 54lbs! So I was off on my install post.

So the real numbers after this install are as follows:

17x9 Bullit Wheel w/Nitto 450 255/50/17 - 54lbs
15x4 Jegs Wheel w/Kumho 165/80/15 - 29lbs

Rotational weight savings per wheel: 25lbs
Toto rotational weight savings: 50lbs

EDIT: Don_W also posted up the tires I'm running are speed rated for 118. Just keep note of that. I will probably switch out the tires later with M&H's after the built block.
