I went to the Local 1/8 mile track today since the DA was real nice, 56 and 20% Humidity. and the first Launch I did had the worst wheel hop, I never had wheel hop before, all the sudden I heard a bang. I checked everything and it looked fine, so I decided to hit the lanes again. this time I did my burnout and I only spun one tire. I lauched and went down the track this time and heard a crunching noise, I pulled back into the pits and noticed that there was a trail of fluid all the way in and 2 puddles of tranny fluid on the ground.

This time I had Adam look under the car to see if it was leaking while I started the car, put it in gear.. nothing, the car rolls, I even drove home with no issues. so I am not sure what that was all about.

Looks like a new Locker is in my future for sure.

I hope you get it worked out Scott.

The bang sounds familiar to a certain 7.5 rear I once owned.

Sounds like a diff problem, but what was up with the trans fluid? Driving home with no issues sounds strange too. See if the area around the rear axle breather shows some signs of leakage.

The rear sounds like exactly what happen to mine. TruTrac is a must with your ET's. The stock LSD is a POS, FWIW, IMHO, LOL...

Did I get enough acronyms?

This sucks!!!!

How much trans fluid. The 5r's do breathe under the stress and will leak a little fluid.

Where Scott and I parked there were two fairly large (Softball sized) puddles under his car with a steady stream of fluid extending about 20 feet behind the car in an arc that followed Scotts path to our parking spot. The odd thing is that neither Scott nor I could see anything leaking from his car.

Now, I make no claims to being even a crappy mechanic, but with two puddles that size, I would have expected to be able to trace the leak back to it's source fairly easily. Also, the fluid was not warm to the touch, indicating that it might have been there for some time before we got back.

I postulated that while we were in line, it was possible that another car could have borrowed our spot. We were in line for about 15 min before we got to run. A second idea was that it was possible that his PS rack was leaking. I suggested this because I have heard that PS leaks can be inconsistent. Not as likely, to be sure.

I thought about the fluid temp as well but 5 min on the ground in 50 deg temps gould have cooled it down to a warm touch temp.. Not sure what it was, I am going to put the car on the jack stangs this weekend and check it out from the underside.

But so far the tranny is acting normal and no leaks, Torey thinks the pressure could have pushed out some fluid through the vent tube.

Thats what I was thinking. My old 5r would vent all the time.
