View Full Version : Cold Start Problems and Throwing Some Codes

Guys, I am having problems with cold starts and every day or two my car throws a P0340 and a P0345. Both of them are cam position sensor "circuit" failures. one code is for the 1st bank and the other is for the second bank. CPS error cause start-up problems, so I think there may be something legit here.

I am pretty sure the sensors themselves are fine because it is both banks, it says "circuit" (not sensor), and I just had the harness off the engine a week ago. I am more prone to believe I did not plug something in fully or in the correct spot.

Does anyone no if there is a left and right polarity for the sensors, meaning one was made specificly for the left bank. and one for the right bank? Also, I had the balist resistors off of the timing cover. Any chance they have a specific polarity? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Spaz

May be a tune issue related to the lock-outs. Could also check battery voltage at initial start up and see when the alternator kicks in.

I had this when I first got my 05, it was related to the Cam Phaser position tabs being bent. I tried to be very careful not to bend them when I was installing the Lockouts, but remember that the bolt went to far due to bad instructions (210 in lbs torque)?? We may want to order some new screws for the Phasers and replace them all. I would feel better about it, in fact I will order them friday for you as well as the Head temp sensor.

Dude, you don't have to do that. It's NBD...

Thats why I did all that while I was down there... b/c going back in SUX!

I hope for your sake its a minor tuning issue.

Just curious you have phaser limiters or lockouts?

I would feel better that we replace them, and we can polish your valve covers while there off :-)

Now this is just flat out weird. The Check engine kight and the idle hunt problem have completely gone away. I made no changes, didn't clear any codes, didn't even connect the code reader or programer. They just went away...

Maybe dirt in the Oil? I would change it, you had the motor open and all kinds of crap may have fell into the engine, even anti-freeze,
I know it has nothing to do with the oil, I just think you should change it.......

the Tune being Rich may have done it, you should also check the intake connections and make sure there tight.
