View Full Version : Time for a Tune! Checking Out My Dyno!

Well, I am going to dial in my tune tonight. I am going to Excessive and put it on the dyno tonight at 6. I am hoping for some big numbers too.

I am also going to use this as a chance to see how close my dyno software is, as I am going to use my laptop and Chris' dyno at the same time. I will find out just how close it really is. I just did a quick run a few minutes ago. I hope it's at least close, because if it is, I am going to be very stoked.

Our cars computer constantly monitors (and calculates) the TQ they make by measuring speed, RPMs, etc. On the run I just did this morning, at 5100 RPM, I made my peak TQ of 385. To figure out your HP you use this formula...

(Revs x TQ) / 5252 = HP.

So (5100 x 385) / 5252 = 373.85 HP at peak tq.

BTW, I almost forgot... I don't think the TQ reading from our car's ECM/PCM is right.

When the DynoJet dyno said 327 at the wheels, the onboard ECM/PCM read 385 at the flywheel. BUT, when the DynoJet dyno said 359 at the wheels, the onboard ECM/PCM read 319 at the flywheel. So, it doesn't appear to be useful in formation.

The Aeroforce Interceptor Measures HP

The gauge displays crank hp by default. As long as the MAF sensor is stock the gauge should do a good job of estimating hp even with mods. If you want it to read RWHP and you know the drivetrain loss is 18%, go into the hp correction function and enter 082, or 82% of the current crank reading.
If you change the MAF, then you have to enter the scalar of the new MAF as described in the gauge's user manual.
Hope this helps!
Todd

Hey guys,
A few folks have asked what the SAE CF results were. I just got them today for those who are interested.

380/348 RWHP/TQ is still pretty good. I am sure once Doug gets his hands on it, we can squeeze a bit more out of it...

Nice. Power looks good down low. You should be able to cut high 1.6x and low 1.7x 60fts with the power you are making.

Marc, the more I look at that, the more I realize that I just need to pull the plug and get those heads ported ASAP. With the very disappointing results from the c&l manifold, I need to see if pushing more air will wake that thing up. Damnit....

Two observations.

One is your airfuel is fairly lean and gets leaner at the end, is this a racefuel tune? (blue run is better in the middle)

Second is just a question, have you taken the car to a different dyno? Over the years I have noticed that dyno in particular reads higher then other ones in the area. As I said, just an observation not a slam or dig.

JJ, I don't think you would take a digg, esp. after what you have done for us. You have some good points.

I got a tune emailed to me from Doug and used my Diablo to do a broad-scope dial-in. The tune is not 100% due to not having a tech use the correct software (in person) to dial it in for me. I think it might be leaning out on the top end due to injectors being to small too.

After spending all this money on parts, I really can't afford a new SCT hand held nor can I afford a good live dyno tune. I do feel comfortable that the car is not going to have problems because of the tune and the car is making nice power.

As far as doing pulls on another dyno. That has not happend. I really feel that a dyno is just a tuning tool. As long as the numbers are somewhere near where I expect them, I don't lend to much to it. I know I have my numbers in my sig, but I don't really get hung up on dyno numbers. As soon as I have some ET's to put in my sig, those dyno number are going away. LOL

Now, I do what to take a ride up to your shop Thursday or Friday so I can shake your hand and personally thank you for your support. Maybe while I am there we can strap her in and see what happens.
