When did the NA shootout become an index race? I haven't been on here in about a month. The last set of rules looked pretty solid and now all the classes are index? I know you guys are working hard on this event but you really lose the spirit of a Shootout when you are penalized for going faster than the other guy with less mods. I really don't see me going all the way down to Rockingham to run an Index race, I can do that much closer to home:(:(

This event is intended to be a chance to give people with street driven (DD) cars an opportunity to race in a side-by-side, all out, match of record.
Most street cars that go to an event running a quick 16 or 32 format never making past the time trails and T&T gets old. When we built the rules for the heads-up classes, we got a large amount of complaints (more than 50) from the "average Joe", who loved the idea, but did not want to build a car for a class (like a pro racer) or compete in a class they know they are going to lose in.
Indexing with no breakout rules is the best compromise we could come up with. You can run as fast as you possibly can regardless of your mods, have some kick ass side-by-side racing, and still win awards and set a record with a new sanctioning body.
Also, the grudge matches are still heads-up.
If this event is successful, we are going to plan many more events for the comming years. Esp. now that FFW and Battle of the Brands are gone, we fully hope to step-up (if the Mustang/Racing community so desires) to help fill some gaps. It is my hopes that we can have several events a year with both heads-up and index racing so we feed the need for both the daily driver and the serious racer.
I know you are really into some more serious racing, but I hope we can count on your support as a spectator, particapant, or sponsor, as the more success we have with this event, the greater the chances are that we will be able to fill that gap left by our friends at FFW and BOTB.

I sincerely hope you guys have a really successful event but I don't think I will be there. The costs associated to travel that far to run against car with similar mods to really see who the best tuner/driver was worth it to me. To run an index against another car that happens to run the same ET's as me just isn't worth it. I can go to a local track and race John, Art, etc. I sincerely wish you guys the best of luck with the event.

Doing this way is a good compromise. It allows folks to get into a class without nit-picking their setups. It pits cars against each other that are of similar ET's, but still lets them run all out.
Whats the alternative...drive x number of hours to an event to run a bracket class, or drive x number of hours to this and still have a chance to run all-out. And since there are no points involved (like nmra and former ffw), everyone has an equal shot at winning.

Sorry guys I liked it when there were classes and equal cars were going heads up to see who the best is. Sorry but that is the racer in me talking, index racing is just not for me. Like I said I am lucky to have some of the faster NA guys in my backyard and I am sure we will all throw down at Cecil in the fall.
In has been my experience that of the 50 average joes that complained you might get 15 of them actually out to the track. I hope the odds work better for you guys, I really do.
Sorry Chad....don't hate because I didn't need heads, cams, and 4:56s to go .03 FASTER than you did :) All in fun bud

Thanks bro. I do too. We only have a few registard racers after 4 months. We needed to do something to attract racers or Chad and I are going to be bored after 26-27 passes... LOL

I wouldn't worry too much yet Marc. Again speaking from experience you are not going to see a lot of registered racers until Sept-Oct. People aren't going to plan that far in advance, especially the group you are reaching out to with the indexes. Most of the guys coming to this event probably don't race on a regular basis and will not commit to anything this far out. I know with the SSOTN series we would have 30-40 cars registered a month out and end up selling out of 175 tickets by the time of the event.

Bill,
Well then why don't you come to the event as a sponsor, Your car is a total factory freak or you have the right combo to market, the visability would benifit your business. you can show case your Car.. it's a real killer.
I would get the same setup as your car if I can run as strong as you.

You are right about the people being targeted for the November event. We are hoping to get more people excited about racing for sure. I really want to help get these folks off the streets, into a safe environment and get the people who have be trying to race a platform to play.
I was hoping the true heads-up Grudge Matches category (although no awards are given) would still be of interest for the hard core racers. That's the whole reason we created the grudge match category, for guys like you, Vinny, Jim, Justin, etc. I want you guys to have fun, make some flat out passes, and let the "big dogs" have at it.
if we don't get many early registrations, I do hope we have the last minute entries like you mentioned.
On the flip side, it's only one of our planned races. We are in the process of planning a possible local 1/8 mile event using our original classes and opening it to all Mustangs. We will start a new thread for that if it comes to light. Hopefully we will see you at one of our other events.

Why only 1/8 mile?

The track that we are looking at is an iconic location and it local to us.
Old Dominion is the birth place of the fastest growing class in NASCAR, "Late Model Stock Car". Although still an independent dragway, originally owned and operated by a Mr. Al Gore, Old Dominion Dragway is one of the first drag strips in the country to open its doors to the public. In 1952, then called Longview Raceway, the track was part of an initiative started by Wally Parks (founder of the NHRA) to stop unsafe street racing and help get more drivers into the sport of racecar driving. They are also the birth place of the Southern Bracket Racing Association (SBRA).
To this day the current owner, Mr. Steve Britt, continues to have many events every month, all dedicated to helping give kids (and adults) a place to get off the street and earn their bragging rights.
After talking with Todd and Scott, knowing how much impact the raceway has had on the racing community and how many racing "firsts" have been born out of this track, we felt it would be fitting to have or inaugural event at this local track.

noob question....so I get how this is going down.
so each car will be placed in a "index" based on how it runs in time trials?
then there will be heads up all out racing based on this index?
one lose in this bracket and your out?
if you run faster then your index that's ok?
Thanks guys.
You got it...
Faster limited to one tenth break out. Unless track or weather conditions have changed enough to justify more. Which usually doesn't happen.
The tenth will cover most condition changes.
