My wife Lindsay and I came very close to being extremely unhappy last night. We decided to go get some slushes at Sonic in Fredericksburg, so we took the Mustang out for a 2 hour cruise.

Around midnight we were on our way home coming up 95 north. Thank God I usually drive slow in the rain; I was only going about 55 mph instead of the normal 65 or 70 mph. It had been raining for a few hours and the water is pooling up on the roads pretty good.

Well, I had not realized that the tread was COMPLETELY gone from my drag radials after the last round of burnouts at the track. My traction in the rain was completely gone too. With literally no warning what so ever the car broke loose. We spun counterclockwise 3 full rotations while drifting from the right lane into the ditch in the center of the divided highway.

I have to tell you, spinning around in circles in the dark, in the rain, while sliding at 60 mph was not cool at all. Fortunately no one was hurt, we did not hit anyone else, and the car is not damaged. But I am pretty pissed about the fact that out of the 2 dozen cars around us, not one single person stopped to see if we were ok. WTF is the problem with people today?

Anyway, time to buy some new tires…

Lindsay was very cool about it. I as shocked she did not freak. She said she isn't even mad at me.

I will not be doing that again...

We were able to drive straight and get up momentum to get up the grassy slope. It was not too steep.

Wow Marc. Glad both of you are ok, scary shit. Might be time to run street tires and switch to DR's when you go to the track.

Yea, I am looking for a good street tire right now. I think I am going to go with Toyo Proxes T1R 285/40r18's. They seem to be a good tire, one step below their closed road track tire.

Glad you were not injured. (by wife either).

I run the Eagle F1 A/S tires on the street. They are super hard compound and will last forever. I have two seasons on them and can't even really see any appreciable wear. I can go 3/4 effort from the line in the rain and no issues with tracking or sliding in corners at speed. It blows away STI and Evo owners when I get caught in the rain and end up at a light with them. They give that little grin at the light and then the big "Mr. Bill" face.
