View Full Version : Trottle problems

OK so the car has been a good second slower then it had been, I thought it had something to do with the new exhaust but, I noticed that on my data log, the throttle position only goes to 76.4%, so it looks to me like I'm running at 3/4 throttle, and that would explain the slower times, I read about doing the pedal sensor reset to take out throttle lag, and I don't have throttle lag, but I tried it and it didn't change anything, I have logged it a bunch of times, and with my foot on the floor it comes up exactly 76.4% every time.
Anny help?
See if actual throttle blade position matches. What throttle body are you using?

Well, don't look at it like a carb setup. Those blades only open as far as they need to based on the commanded settings. If the blades open less now compared to before before, then you need to talk to your tuner and ask what could cause it.

Its the stock throttle body, and I'm not talking about looking at it, the data log is whats telling me this, I think the pedals not telling the throttle that its at WOT, and if the car thinks its not at WOT, the custom tuning isn't being accessed. dose anyone know what the TP sensor is supposed to read at WOT, look there's something wrong with this damn car, you don't just lose a full second of you time for no reason.

On the 4.6L the TB Datalog reads 90% at WOT. There was a way to adjust the Electronic switch on your peddle that some say works.
there is also a way to retrain the PCM. I will dig them up for you.

I am not sure about the 4.0, but on my car, even with all the heavy performance mods, at WOT my TPS reports it at 89%.
When was the last time you uploaded the tune to the ECM? On my car (and reported by many others), the long term fuel trim slows my car way down after a couple of months. I flash the ECM everytime I go to the track to ensure I have max performnce when racing.
What parts have you changed since the faster ET was made?
I would be happy to data log it for you. We can see what's what. Do you have any old log files we can look at to compare, or do you have the old tune and parts so we can restore and test?

the only thing I changed is the exhaust, and I would have to buy a y pipe to put it back, I don't have any old log files because I just got the data logger a month ago, I put on shorty headers, X pipe and true dual, I left the cats for backpresure, I hadn't been to the track for almost a year before I put the exhaust on so I don't know what else mite have changed, but I have a friendly rivalry with a guy in another V6, and I used to eat him up, and now he beats me, and he didn't change anything on his car, so I don't know what to do, I'm getting more aggravated over it as it goes on.
Do you know anyone in the area that tunes the Sniper, I have 2 tuners now, and I'm not buying another one, maybe its the tune.

I think JJ @ Woodbine Motorsports can. He is a good tuner and may be able put it on the dyno and figure it out... even if he doesn't normally tune with it.
Like I mentioned, the adaptive tuning is going to try to make the car safe and economical. You may see an improvement by just reflashing the computer.

what tuners do you have besides Sniper? are they hand helds?
JJ at Woodbine MS tunes for SCT and Diablo tuner.
Call him maybe he can do it. He's a Sponsor here and in in Woodbine, MD
Also Call Chris at Excessive he may know how. Try JJ First, both are great guys.

No I talked to JJ at the MCOM tech day at Bob's this passed weekend, and JJ doesn't have a dyno, and he doesn't tune on Sniper, the other one I have is that damn Grannattili {don't ask me how its spelled} and they aren't writing any software for it.
Thanks For the help though, I can see now this is going to p me off, and I'm going to go out and put a bottle on it and be done with it.

Zex Wet 75 Shot FTW! LOL
Seriously though, since JJ won't be able to help, I'll talk to Chris and see if he will work on it. I am going to see him this weekend.

Ha ha ha, well the problem is, Alex has been chasing me, and now the tide has turned, and its not because he made his car better, its because mine slowed down, oh well.
I guess I'll see you all on Sunday for the crabcake run.

You not going to Crew-Fest with us? A bunch of people from MDPS are going.

Have you tried Cleaning the MAF Sensor? pick up some MAF Cleaner from Autozone or Advanced Auto and spray the hell out of it.. Pick up Throttle body Cleaner while your there and clean the TB out.

Already cleaned the MAF and swapped with a known good one, no difference.
Hey Spaz, not much of a crew fan, now if it was Aerosmith, or KISS, that would be a different story.

Ah, Cool. Also very good bands.
The Crew sounded very bad. I was disappointed, esp since I saw them a few times going back 20-25 years ago and know what they "use" to do.
I talked to Chris about tuning your car. He really has no training or experiance with Sniper and would like to stay away fom it. I kno you really don't want to buy another tuner, but I would recommend selling what you have and getting an SCT X-Cal 3.
