Just a note that living paycheck to paycheck since May hasn't been ideal, and I haven't had the ability to save money for the trip to NC. I had hoped for a rumored bonus to emerge this month, but seems like that isn't going to happen.

Sorry folks, but it looks like I'm out unless that bonus appears. Just don't have the cash to make it happen.

I'll keep an eye on how much I can sock away this month all the way up to the event. Something may come up...

If I drive my car down (and someone can haul my Bogart/tire set for me), I estimate $825 gas, meals and lodging. I've set aside $100 today. $725 and counting...

If I tow the car with the Expedition, I'm looking at least $1000 with the extra gas. Just too far out of reach.

Update: Total saved $500. Laura's going to go and split costs (she just pledged $400). Damn, almost there. Might even be able to afford the high cost tow-with-the-Expedition approach. Wow, I'm getting pumped...

Why so high on the cost est., esp fuel?

I took the whole family down for 3 days. Including food, gas and hotels we spent less than $500 for 4 people. That's including some tourist stuff like going to see a battleship. I think we only spent $85 in gas for all 3 days, including the trip there and back. Less than 1 tank down, less than one tank back, and a half tank while we were there.

It's always good to have "extra" money incase something goes bad, but just the two of you, and both splitting costs...should be fairly cheap.

It appears to be a 1000 miles round trip. At 20mpg, that's 50 gallons or $137.50 (assuming $2.75/gallon, gas for racing, and gas for some running between things). So say $175. $350 for lodging, $200 meals and trinkets. You're right, that's $725, not $825. And only $225 shy at the moment. Ask and ye shall receive seems to be working...

I'm glad you are getting closer. I really want to see you go. Just won't the the same without you.

Where the hell did you move to, Boston? LOL (j/k) It is 300 mile from my house. We got there in 4.5 hours. It wasn't that bad for us, but I know you guys are trying to avoid 95 though. using 81 adds a lot of miles for sure.

BTW, batteries are charged in the camcorder. I'm ready to get some footage of your car. I would be so stoked if we both pull 11's!

:DHe's not telling you he drove a Power Blue Prius :p

Marc, he's on the Maryland / PA Border and thats 80 miles from our houses
it's 335 miles Door to Door for me.

My Wife was going but changed her mind, Since I am flying out of town on business that week so she does not want to hook up the car to the truck and drive down early saturday, So I am driving Solo in the car.

When I worked in Raleigh and lived in Northern VA I would drive down sunday night and come back on friday and I could make it to Raleigh in 3 hours from DC. The Rock is just over an hour south from Raleigh.
I would use 1 tank down to RTP from DC running at about 80 mph with 4.10's, with one stop at starbucks for a Cup O Joe.

Take 95 to Petersburg, then take 85 to Raleigh/Durham then 501 to Sanford then US1 to the track
