I have 4 Bullitt 18X9 Wheels, I had 275/40 18 on them, they are a little short and bald. they look like George Castanza...

So I picked up a set of brand new takeoffs from a GT 500 they are Goodyear F1 285/40 18 (rear) and 255/45 18 (front)

I know the GT500 rims are 18x9.5 and these tires fit fine will the 285's fit on a 18.9 rim?

they are approved for a 9.5" rim. IMHO you are fine on a 9"
Tire Size Service Description Sidewall Approved Rim Width (inches) Meas. Rim Width (inches) Section Width (inches) Outside Diameter (inches) Tread Depth (32nds) Max Load (lbs)
P285/40ZR18 96W VSB 9.5 - 11.0 10.00 11.4 27.0 11/32 1,565 @ 44

I run 265/40/18s on a 8.5", same 1/2 difference equivalent that you'll be seeing. They work with out issue.

They will work ok. I have 285's on an 8" wheel before with no issues.
