East Coast S197 Shootout (Street Series)
February 7, 2009
Five Guys Racing is pleased to announce the First Annual East Coast S197 Mustang Shootout at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina, on Sunday, November 1, 2009. Gates open at 8 AM, time trials start at 9 AM, and eliminations begin at 12 PM. “The Rock” provides a centrally located, easily accessed facility on the Eastern seaboard complete with concessons, sponsor space, and nearby hotels.
The event was originally intended to focus on the 4.0L and 4.6L naturally aspirated S197's with six index, side-by-side race classes. However, due to popular demand the forced induction crowd is invited to participate in six additional classes for added excitement. The facility will manage a Sportsman ladder, and racers will face a .5 Pro Tree and half second indexes. The overall emphasis is on street cars you can live with and drive every day, so all cars must be tagged and registered, and cannot be gutted. Winners in each class will receive trophies. Other awards are also being developed for items such as "best 60 foot", "longest road trip to the event", etc.
The following classes have been developed:
Grudge Matches and "Test & Tune"!
Concerned about getting eliminated early on? Don't be. Instead, please join some of the well known racecar drivers and our other special guests in the non-award category. Call out a buddy (or a nemesis) for some straight-up heads up racing action.
No one to call out for a grudge match? This is not your typical Test & Tune. Open to all Ford vehicles with a Ford power plant, just keep making "time trial" passes as if you are at a private rental. See if you can be the first driver to make 20 passes down the 1320. With this being a limited engagement, everyone will have plenty of opportunity to race all day!
NA Classes
Street Sleeper - 14.000 and slower (4.0L Cars Only)
Pure Street - 13.999 - 13.500
Street - 13.499 - 13.000
Modified Street - 12.999 - 12.500
Super Street - 12.499 - 12.000
Street Eliminator - 11.999 and faster
Power Adder Classes
Street Renegade - 12.500 and slower
Street Hoodlum - 12.499 - 12.000
Street Sheriff - 11.999 - 11.500
Street Bandit - 11.499 - 11.000
Wild Street - 10.999 - 10.500
Street Outlaw - 10.499 and faster
Check back periodically as further information regarding entry fees, driver’s meeting, lodging and other items will be become available.

PNP heads and cams will give you between 45 to 60 more HP than a stock heads. That is a major advantage over the rest of the MS class.
We will talk about this amoung the mods and see what we can work out.

It's just tough to win when you are the slowest of the fast; even in bracket! LOL
Its no big deal... just thinkin' out loud.
Just a thought, head cars have to weigh over 2600lbs?????
Regardless... will be ALOTTA fun :)

Does that mean I have to put the passenger seat and the back seat 'back in' ?
How about the spare time?

Just wondering myself... I usually just take back seats out, pass seat, and clean out trunk (tools mostly), change all 4 tires, move & switch battery
run/race,
put it all back in and drive home>
I got a... why am I saying this, ya'll will see Mt. Chad at the track it the pits! LOL!
Im not proud of it... but it is what it is! LOL!
Let me know, b/c if I dont HAVE to make a rear seat delte carpet thing... I wont.
BTW... its gonna be LIME GREEN SHAG!

For qualifying and racing (trophy class) you need to have full interior. If you pull the rear seat, it must be finished.
If you are making passes that are not related to the trophy classes (test & tune or trying for a personal best), you can pull whatever you want.
We will have all day for stuff like that too...
BTW... its gonna be LIME GREEN SHAG!
Shall we SHAG now or SHAG later? Yea baby, yea....

One more question, 'Tara' is for the most part trailer'ed.
The seat is out along with the rear seating and spare tire.
Now I know all that has to be put back in, but 'Tara' has Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial P275/40/R17 & Mickey Thompson Sportsman Radials 15/3.5 Mounted on Greg Welds up front.
Is this tire set up allowed?

Hey Everyone! Just a quick heads up on the Halloween Party. The official party is at Rockingham Dragway on Saturday, during the T&T and make-up events. We should be up and running no latter than 4 PM.
Setup in a Sky Box in the tower there will be:
a Piņata
goodie bags
games
food
drinks
decorations
There is a costume contest, and the track owner will be shutting down the strip for 45 mintutes so the kids can Trick-O-Treat in the pits. The dragway officials have asked / post on the website that all drivers bring some candy for the kids!
If you have children and want to let them have some fun... come on down to Rockingham Dragway Saturday afternoon and have some fun.
Thanks,
Spaz

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to touch base and give you guys a quick update. Unfortunately, as Todd mentioned, we had to cancel the event for this weekend. After several decision-making meetings, reviewing the weather, and working on the track, the track officials advised us that they would not be able to dry and maintain the track today. Due to the increased chance of rain developing for Monday, we were asked to reschedule the event for another day.
On behalf of Street Jam Racing and the Five Guys Racing Team, please accept our apologies for the rainout and cancelation of today’s event. We hope each of you will have an opportunity to come back and join us again.
We will be meeting over the next week or so, to begin planning the rain date. We hope we can pull this together for you soon. As plans unfold, we will keep you updated. For people who have pre-paid, we will contact you with information relating to rain-checks and/or refunds. In the interim, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at Info@s197-mustang.com (Info@s197-mustang.com).

Now for the good stuff…
We had a great turnout! Even with the rain, more than 30 drivers arrived; some from up to 1000 miles away. It was amazing to see how many people made the journey to Rockingham, NC for this first-time event. Although we did not get to have our race, a few people did run at the T&T the night before, and many of us got to hangout for a good portion of today. This race community is awesome, and we greatly appreciate you all coming out. As we mentioned before, this race is to promote friendship and goodwill while having a great time racing out street cars. Just like so many decades before, you all have shown us what a vast, welcoming group of people makeup the race community.
We did have a chance to get some pictures and video of us goofing around at the track. Hopefully we will have some posted soon. Check back frequently for updates.

I would like to thank Joe and Matt DaSilva, their family, friends and entire DaSilva Racing Team, for making the 1600+ mile round trip. It was an honor to meet all of you. I hope we can get together again soon.
I would like to thank Peter Mitas from Thump_rrr Racing who also trekked near 1600 miles round trip, as well as Peter’s family and friends for joining us today in support. (I need that Carpaccio recipe, btw… LOL)
Thanks to everyone from HP Performance Inc. from Jacksonville Florida.
Also thank you to the folks from Hurricane Racing for the local support.
Of course I can’t forget our friend Chad! Thanks for making the trip up from the Bayou, supporting the event, and being a good friend to us. It was a blast hanging out.
And Special Thanks to Ron from (Former) Spyder Shaft.. We missed him at 2am when he rolled in from Maryland.
I am sorry to say, I do not remember everyone’s name, but I do want to thank everyone. I know we had folks from Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, New Jersey, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and many other places. If I did not mention you… please chime in and say hello. We would like the chance to say thank you.
__________________________________________________ _________________
We would also like to thank our sponsors. Along with the trophies and ongoing support, they have collectively donated over $2,000 in prizes and give-a-ways.
JJ from Woodbine Motorsports was on the scene helping out where he could, supporting our team, the other drivers, and the event as a whole.
We would also like to thank Peter and Thump Racing for their support today. They were also on the scene. Thump Racing gave away many shirts and sweaters to the drivers and spectators today. It was a welcome gesture in the cold rain too! Thump Racing also had some other surprises for participants. I can tell you that they are VERY generous prizes. Unfortunately, because we did not race, those items are staying a secret until the rain date. (I had to give you a teaser, sorry)
Thanks to Fore Precision Works for their support as well. We have a great set of AL Fuel Rails as a prize on our rain date as well.
We would also like to thank our newest sponsor, Chuck at 1320 Photography for coming out and shooting some pictures for us today. Welcome to the family Chuck!
Of course, where would we be without Kim and the awesome support staff at S197Forum! Thanks for having a kick ass tech and racing oriented site!
__________________________________________________ ________________
I need to thank the rest of my team; Scott, Todd, John, and Art. You guys rock. Thanks for your efforts getting us this far. Can’t wait for a good dry day to let the hard work pay off.
I also need to thank my wife Lindsay. She spent days and did one hell of a job with helping the team, planning, and hosting a killer Halloween bash for the dozen+ kids at the T&T on Saturday night. Way too go!
I know this is kind of long winded, especially given we did not get to have the race, but today was still a successful day and a lot of people made it happen. Keep an eye out for the rain date. We should have something for you very soon.
Your Friend,
Spaz
