I just moved up to Alexandria, Va from Dallas/Ft Worth, TX... I went to MIR last weekend for the Ford Classic and only got one run in Friday night....I was impressed with the track prep. Missed Sat and Sundays event. Traffic down to track was no fun. I am going to try Capitol Dragway tonight to see how that track is and run . What tracks do you prefer around this area? Looks like after November they all close. I was hoping I could go to that s197 shootout but will have to wait till next year. Matt 08 Grabber Orange spoiler delete.

Hey man, welcome to the site and the neighborhood!

Scott and I live about 3 miles apart. I can tell you that MIR on a Friday is crazy. If you get popped in the first round, it's a hell of a drive for 1 pass. If you want to go to a weekend T&T to get a feel for the track, you can get 5 passes (+/-) and have some fun.

We also go to Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas. It's only an 1/8th, but the people there are great and the prices are half compared to most.

Mason Dixon Dragway is good too. Once in a blue moon we hit Virginia Motorsport Park. Both really nice tracks.

Matt,
I really hate Capital Test and Tune nights, it's about 85% Ricers, loud Hip Hop music and fights..

75-80 in Maryland, Mason Dixon is nice, NVMC (Northern Virginia Mustang Club) does a track rental every month from March to October.
and like Marc said, Old Dominion is good for practicing.

We should all get to gether and have a beer some time.

Sure wish you could make it to the Shootout.

My two cents regarding Maryland tracks. (I'm in north central Maryland, Carroll County). Watch for drag rental events from Northern Virginia Mustang Club spring through fall at Mason Dixon, and Superstallions at Cecil County once in the spring and once in the fall. Cecil by the way is a nice track, but getting there means skirting the beltway around rush hour and that is NOT FUN.

Test n Tunes are a crapshoot crowd wise, but Mason Dixon's are usually worth it. Capitol Raceway isn't that bad IF you get there when the gates open Fridays, and only stay until about 7pm. I've always found the track prep there acceptable. Then after 7pm, as Scott says, it becomes ricer city. You'd NEVER leave anything unlocked or accessible there while racing either.

Welcome!

John

yeah welcome to the neiborhood. i'm writing without glasses so there might be something mispelled here and there but anyway i've run the fastest at capitol at night. some nights there are worse than others but you usually get 3 runs at least.
here's my summary of our local tracks (within 3 hours)
-75-80 elv<500ft. just opened back up this year with new management so they still have some growing pains ....the track closed in 2005 then was ressurrected by the new propert owner when real estate prices when bust. you may encounter some nights when things catch fire at the track and stuff :) just kidding the new owner took car of all that crap

-cecil elv<100ft' is awesome but probably 2.5-3 hours for you in NoVa

-MIR elv=5ft. is great just not on friday nights or import vs. domestic owner is Royce Miller (awesome racer so he knows what we need)

-capitol elv. 25ft=is not as bad as people think i've never had anything stolen from there and been going since i was 9yo

Mason Dixon (hagerstown) elv.600ft= is a pretty good track. Elmer also an old racer but management style is a bit one sided....just stick with the track rentals from NVMC and forget trying to bracket race there.

-VMP probably the most awesome track in the country. sea level and National event quality.

-Maple grove elv. 206ft. (reading PA)- another national event track. great for events Ford Motorsport Nationals in the summer. in the fall lots of trees surrounding track gives lots of oxygen in the air and cars runs super fast
