Evolution Performance runs 12.04 in their Bolt-On 2011 Mustang 5-liter while making 405 WHP

Every guy who has gotten their hands on a new Mustang seems to be bitten by the performance bug fairly quickly. When the wallet doesn't permit a massive amount of modifications to the car, an enthusiast that still wants to drive his car every day is probably going to go after some 'plain old' bolt-on modifications to retain drive-ability. Although most share the opinion that 412 horses from the factory is plenty enough to pickup the groceries and the kids from soccer practice, Evolution Performance Inc. decided they'd get their hands on a few bolt-ons to see what they'll do for this 'Stang in a street/strip application. The only real 'performance enhancing' modification that they spec'd the car out with from the factory was the 3.73 gears out back.

You can check out Evolution Performance on their website (http://www.evoperform.com/shop/) for more.

They started things off slow, when the car was basically stock right down to the stock 19" wheels and tires, which netted them a 12.88 (fairly close to Motor Trend's results). After that, the old shoes were kicked off for some Mickey Thompson ET Streets, and some tweaking under the rear end was done - including a set of aftermarket upper and lower control arms. With just some minor suspension tweaks and good tires, they took the car out to Cecil County Dragway, where they were able to make a best run of 12.49 at 112 before nightfall put an end to the fun for the evening.

The guys over at Evolution knew there was more in that setup since they weren't leaving extremely hard shown by the 1.8 60 foot time, but they were anxious to get working on the off-road cat-less X pipe and modified Borla (http://www.borla.com/home.aspx) cat-back exhaust to have a sweet rumble and also unleash a few horses. Along with the exhaust, they popped in a K&N (http://www.knfilters.com/) drop-In filter and an in-house custom tune using SCT (http://www.sctflash.com/) software.

The results speak for themselves - Not only did they bump the dyno numbers jump up to 405 horsepower to the wheels, but they thundered this 2011 Mustang down the quarter mile in 12.04 seconds, hitting the traps at 117 MPH. Also, a tenth was shaved off their 60 foot time. Evolution is positive it'll go 11's without any more mods to the car, but they realized after about a dozen track runs, dyno time, street fun and such, they've gotten all they can out of the stock clutch for now. Not too much of a disappointment, after all, it's an excuse for more modifications now, right? Stay tuned to see what else Evolution Performance has in store for this 5.0.

Pulls of the 2011 Mustang in stock form making 368hp. They picked up 42whp with simple bolt on mods... not bad.

I may get 11s after all this year, albeit in a new car...

Man, I would love to get a 5.0. I am going to wait 2 years for the production bug to get worked out though. I hope they have this nailed. 11's on a lightly modded car sounds sweet.

That is amazing, I have been following this for a week. Recap

Thursday April 29th 2010
We drove our 2011 Kona Blue Mustang GT Premium 5.0L 4V with HID's, Comfort Package, Security Package, 3.73 Gears, Brembo Brake Package, 19" Wheels with Street Tires and drove it 70 miles from the dealer straight to the track! We went 13.2 @ 110mph with a 2.10 60ft with no burnout or cool down. The track was very sloppy from all the street cars dragging water down the track.

Friday April 30th 2010

Our 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L 4V made 405 RWHP and 375 RWTQ with the addition of an Off-Road X-Pipe, Catback Exhaust System, K&N Drop In Filter, and a Custom Tune! That's a gain of 36 RWHP and 23 RWTQ! That's not bad but we're still working on some other changes in the tune... to gain more horsepower and torque. We should have that worked out by the end of the week

12.61 @ 108 mph with a 1.96 60ft on the factory street tires!

12.49@112.55mph 1.80 60ft - With Bogart Racing Wheels with M/T ET Street DOT Tires

again...

looks amazing, I wanna see how well it all holds up; 30K miles at least.

Strip a car, and beat the heck out of it, on Bogarts, at a shops track rental... Not saying it didnt happen.

But, Ill be more convinced when I see 5 or 6 cars drive to the track in Houston/Baton Rouge, lay down those numbers, swap tires and drive home.

If its SO easy, why not...

This thread brings to mind 2005, when a handfull of shops claimed they had 3v w/ minimal mods running 11's.

See how many of those you see? Even NOW, 5 years later... drive to the track, knock off 11's, drive back.

Yup, what I thought.

Then we all bought one... hey 05 guys remember this:

did mine NEED the strut tsb?

hey, who stole my driveshaft and replaced it w/ this 2 ton 2 piece?

and, for the love of GOD, WHAT IS THAT TICKING??

Dont get me wrong, ! love the new 5.0's! Gonna get one when the 1st gen bugs are worked out.

Still WAY early in the game...
