I was checking out the photographer mentioned by Marc, and came across this photo of my car at Mason Dixon last July. I'll have to add this my collection--I always thought my burnouts were half assed:

That was at my private rental last fall. Yea, I dig it too. I'm trying to dig up a pic from Old Dominion, which is on my work laptop. I was going to check my work laptop for more pics I took of your car too.

Yeah, the bottom one does the trick. Are those M&Hs?
MarcSpaz
03-02-2009, 03:42 PM
No, those were the Sumitomo HTZ II's I haven't had the M&H's to the track yet, but they are mounted and ready to go for this season.
boss281

I had to do 2nd gear burnouts with the M&Hs and they were tough to smoke as they got really sticky and bogged on me quickly.

That's what I heard. I am ordering a line lock kit this weekend. There is no way I can foot-brake a DR in a second gear burnout. Tried it a few times with loner DR's and it just doesn't work. Shoot, I could hardly do it with the street tires.

Crap, you know, I keep telling myself to order one, but I never get around to it. Are you getting the PMP kit or the SLP? I'm torn...

I just checked: $75 for the kit (still on sale) and the two Jegs solenoid will set you back $80. The SLP kit (lmperformance.com) comes complete with solenoids and costs $173. Clearly with shipping all the way around the PMP has the better price point and is an S197 sponsor to boot...
I think I just sold myself!

You know what else, with the PMP kit, no pipe bending and having to install fittings. It's a distro block and SS lines. Very clean.
I think we need a burnout contest at the race.
That could be fun. If we do this, I am going to save an old set of tires just for the show.
We are going to need some fire extinguishers for sure!

If you come across their instructions anywhere I'd like to see them if you don't mind. Just to think about the install. Have to think about where I want to put the on/off switch too...

I'll see what I can find. If I don't see anything online, I will scan and email them to you after I get them. Or, maybe another DIY / How-to for the site.
Basicly, they just bolt-on inside the wheel well. They should replace the distro block already in place.
As far as a button goes, I am going to do one of two things.
1.) I may tap the Cruise Control Off button on the wheel with an arming switch on the dash light switch insert.
or
I am going to have it arm automaticly when the car turns on, and put a stereo headphone jack in the dash light switch insert. I will get a curly cord with the headphone plug on it and connect it to a push button. Then when I go to the track, I can plug in the cable to activate the system and velcro the switch to a comfortable place on the wheel.
I am not sure what way I want to go just yet, but option two is where I am leaning. It will be easier to install, less risk of breaking anything, and without the button right at hand, I will be less likely to play on the streets.

I think we do. I have line locks, but I've always been known to just sit there, and heat em up pissing off track staff. I do my burn outs in 2nd, and hold the car to 5500 rpm and keep it there till both driver and passenger side windows have smoke.

I will update the instructions I have when I installed mine Line Locks.
I put a switch on the dash with an on/off switch in the console.
I hope to see better launches /60 ft times now that I am not heating up my rear brakes doing the burnout. I need to hold the line better when I bring up my RPMs on the 3500 Stall.

Thanks Marc! I sold The Saleen to one of my best friends a couple years ago to finance my mod motor'd 88 LX. He still has it and I do all the work on it. (Saleen purists stop reading here!! ) It has a 99 Cobra IRS, 99 Cobra front brakes, Maximum motorsports suspension and roll bar, Corbeau seats, etc. We are swapping a 96 Cobra engine into it this summer. Here is something to think about when it comes to tires vs the "overall setup", such as suspension, weight transfer, etc.
I took these picture of the ground after doing a burnout. I am running MT DR's that are 26" in dia and have a 10.5 tread width. Look how small the contact area is compared to a bottle of water. Wow...

A vehicle manufacturer's recommended 35 psi for a 225/45R17 91W Standard Load tire installed on a vehicle initially rises in 1.5 psi increments for every 10 km/h (6.2 mph) increase in speed until the inflation pressures max out with an increase of 7.5 psi when the vehicle's top speed has increased 50 km/h (31mph). Then as the vehicle's top speed continues to climb, the rated load capacity of the tire is reduced in 5% increments for every additional 10 km/h until the vehicle's top speed has increased an additional 30 km/h (18.6 mph). In this case the 225/45R17 91W Standard Load size's rated load capacity of 1,477 lbs. is reduced to 1,255 lbs. when applied to a vehicle with a 270 km/h (168 mph) top speed.
For W-Speed Rated Tires
Vehicle
Top Speed Required Tire
Pressure Increase Tire Load Capacity
% of Branded Maximum W-Speed Rated Tire
35 psi O.E. Example
mph km/h psi bar % of value branded on sidewall psi lbs.
118 190 0 0 100% 35.0 1000
124 200 1.5 0.1 100% 36.5 1000
130 210 3.0 0.2 100% 38.0 1000

155 250 7.5 0.5 95% 42.5 950
161 260 7.5 0.5 90% 42.5 900
168 270 7.5 0.5 85% 42.5 850
NOTES: Never exceed the maximum cold inflation pressure branded on the tire's sidewall.
If a vehicle's horsepower and top speed are increased significantly, confirm that the required adjustments are made to the tire pressure and/or load conditions beyond the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations using the following charts.
